How to spot a fake sublet listing in KW

Scammers target UW/WLU students every semester. Red flags: landlord refuses in-person viewing, asks for e-Transfer deposit before you see the unit, price is 30%+ below market, uses Gmail/Hotmail (not a UW email). Always verify the unit exists before paying anything. Never send cash or e-Transfer without a signed lease.

Uptown Waterloo vs Downtown Kitchener — which to live in?

Uptown Waterloo (King St near WLU/UW) is walkable, lively, and close to campus — but pricier. Downtown Kitchener is cheaper, more eclectic, and well-connected by ION LRT. Both are great. If you're at UW, Uptown or the University Ave corridor is most convenient. Co-op students heading to tech offices downtown KIT should consider both.
